“The joy of the Gospel fills the hearts and lives of all who encounter Jesus.”
The first encyclical of Pope Francis has been published today, entitled Lumen Fidei, The Light of Faith.
Pope Francis has described this as the work of ‘four hands’, as the first draft of an encyclical on faith had been prepared by Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, completing his triptych of encyclicals on the three theological virtues faith, hope and charity. This encyclical has very fittingly been published during the Year of Faith, which marks the 50th anniversary of the start of the Second Vatican Council.
